A 31-year-old Georgian national was conditionally discharged after he admitted in court today to stealing a belt form the Diesel clothes shop in Valletta.

Giorgi Chelidze currently residing in Sliema was conditionally discharged for two years but kept under arrest until he leaves Malta.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna heard how Mr Chelidze had stolen the €81(Lm34.76) belt from the Merchant street store at noon on Tuesday.

Police Inspector Alfred Mallia prosecuted.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared as legal aid to Mr Chelidze.
