Accused of assaulting woman

A 26-year-old man was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to seriously injuring a woman in Birżebbuġa on Sunday.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna heard Mario Cauchi of Birżebbuġa plead not guilty to seriously injuring a woman in Żurrieq Street and in San Ġwann Street. He also pleaded not guilty to driving while under the influence of alcohol, assaulting and insulting the woman.

Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted.

Lawyer Emmy Bezzina was defence counsel.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared in parte civile for the woman.
