The Federation for Hunting and Conservation - Malta (FKNK) is not expecting I. M. Beck to enter into any debate with it over hunting. We would not take advantage of someone whose ignorance of the subject-matter is matched only by his prejudice against it.

All we asked for were answers to the questions raised by Carmel Farrugia, one of our members, in a letter dated April 2, concerning the general election and hunters' votes, following comments made by I.M. Beck. It is the columnist's prerogative to leave those questions unanswered. Most readers are intelligent enough to form their own opinions as to whether there may be other reasons for his preferring to exercise that prerogative.

As to the unfortunate incident concerning I. M. Beck's son, we are glad to note that the latter has taken it in his stride and moved on.

We augur that his father will emulate him and move on too.

Having said that, we note that he is a firm believer in the rule of law and we believe that the law is there to dispense justice to all and sundry, irrespective of whether one is in the minority. For this reason, the FKNK is willing to allow him access, in confidence, to all legal documentation and correspondence that occurred between Malta and the EU Commission that ended with the Maltese government being taken, in our opinion unjustly, to the European Court of Justice over spring hunting.
