Shaun Wallis, who has served as CEO of HSBC Malta for the past four years, will be heading HSBC in Brazil.
Mr Wallis leaves Malta on May 1 and will be succeeded by Alan Richards who will be coming from HSBC Australia.
Mr Wallis has been a member of HSBC Malta's board of directors for nine years. In his four years at the helm of Malta's largest publicly-listed company, HSBC said it achieved record financial results and contributed to the local community through charitable activities.
Over the past four years, HSBC has also contributed to Malta's social and economic development by making the most of EU membership by supporting such initiatives as CHOGM and FinanceMalta, being proactive in the euro changeover process and attracting foreign investment including its own HSBC Global Call Centre to Malta.
In a message to the staff, Mr Wallis praised them for their loyalty and commitment. "Malta is a wonderful country and I am so pleased to have lived here and honoured to have worked with such a great team," he said, adding that, while sad to leave, he has fond memories of the island and has made many new friends that will ensure he returns in the future.
HSBC Brazil is the sixth largest privately-owned bank in the country and has over 1,700 offices with a staff complement of 27,000 serving more than 10 million customers.
