Roma striker Francesco Totti should have been sent off for verbally abusing a referee, Inter coach Roberto Mancini said yesterday.

The Roma captain was fined 1,000 euros ($1,600) by the league for repeatedly swearing at Nicola Rizzoli after the referee accidentally got in his way as he tried to shoot during the Sunday's 3-1 win at Udinese.

He was booked for his outburst.

"I don't understand all those who say the referee had good sense (to just book him)," Mancini told a news conference.

"I can understand one swear word seeing as the referee was in his way but not the other two. He should have been sent off. There is nothing left to add."
