TV programme fined over strong language

The Broadcasting Authority has fined the One TV programme Teletubi €1,164 after finding that strong language had been used on the February 11 edition – which should have started after 9 p.m. but actually started at 8.25 p.m.

Why exactly are you all commenting on this so much? They broke the rules which are there to try and prevent the liklihood of children being exposed to this kind of bad language and they should be punished, end of story.

To try and manipulate this story to use as ammo for your own deluded agendas is nothing short of laughable.

get over yourselfs.

I never thought we have so much saints in this country. If this is unmorality, than we should not even switch our TV sets on foreign stations.

Mr. C Micallef, if you want to protect minors, just don't leave them watching TV alone at that time. If you're ok to leave children alone in front of TV, then beware as they might see other foreign stations and I can assure you that some content on foreign stations is much much worse than that.
Joe Galea (on 16/4/08)
To all Saints in here: If this program was on NET TV, then you would have condemned BA for such action. If you are so moral, don't watch foreign channels, don't watch movies, don't use internet, don't go out in the streets and above all don't watch TVM productions by well known PN supporters and PBS hijackers.
Hypocrisy at its best.
We are living in an Animal Farm, where some people are more equal than others.

How about wardens and police fining those who swear in the streets from dawn till dusk and not just after 9pm. , in public places and in front of young children. Let no one dare correct them - or else!!!!.... There is a law in place which is nearly never enforced .
Why ? Maybe because a number of those who should enforce the law break it themselves !!
What about what we see on foreign TV programmes and internet ?
YES The law is there - for ALL and ALL should be treated equal in front of the law .

Actually people like me (when they have the chance) prefer watching Striscia on Canale 5. After all, watching the Veline flaunting their bosoms is much more entertaining that some cheap puppets! By the way, much younger siblings watch them too. Thanks BA for protecting us (Tongue in cheek).

@ BYRON CAMILLERI:
And by your comment you think that it makes sense ? ! , now what the heck ,the church has to do with this ! ( same old story ) it's the one t.v Administration's only responsibility for such nonsense! Yes We are in 2008 but there are Rules to respect too.
C Micallef (on 15/4/08)
Broadcasting law has a 9pm cutoff for programs that have more adult content, the aim being to protect minors who might still be watching television at that hour, therefore cursing and other profanities are prohibited before 9pm. However it is not up to tv to dictate or regulate our morals to us, if there is adultry or suggestions of it then it is not illegal as long as there is no nudity or sex scenes. In that case it is up to the parent to be aware and responsible for what their children are watching. Stop blaming everything on tv and start becoming responsible, critical people! Surely ppl can judge for themselves what is rubbish and what is not and regulate their own viewing content??
M. Mifsud (on 15/4/08)
People Here are really protecting zoo because they are viewers of one tv a.k.a labour station, now if something happens in any other stations people would not say anything. Rules are to be followed. It is not because of what happened in the program, it is because of they started the show before 9 and it was not supposed to because of aging reasons!

Two ways two measures!
What about a certain serial (starting at 8.30pm) on national TV showing that there is nothing wrong that a married woman loves another man.
Morality is not only about foul language but also what messages you are sending to the viewers.
Charles Sammut (on 15/4/08)
It is popular programs aired on national television at peak hours, which exploit the misfortunes of others while preying on the morbid curiosity of smug viewers that I consider gutter TV.

Judicious use of what is in reality the Maltese vernacular, is simply being realistic about what is said and done on most workplaces, bars, homes and streets of our holier than thou island.
Franco Farrugia (on 15/4/08)
I quite agree with BA.

To Mr Mifsud: I think you have some sort of persecution complex, there. Watch it.
To Mr Sammut: vulgarity has no place on TV. It has nothing to do with the age we're living in. Anyway, we don't have much to be proud of!

And what does the Church have to do with it? It's all about civilised society!

Yes, indeed, it IS a gutter programme!
Joseph Galea (on 15/4/08)
I must confess that my experience of such programmes on One TV is fleeting. Occasionally I come across one of them while flipping through the channels with the remote control.
However, I cannot understand the appeal of such gutter programming. What is even more extraordinary is that some professional people accept to participate in such vulgar programmes. Is it possible that they are so desperate for publicity that they are prepared to degrade themselves in this way?

Iiihhh!! x hamallagni hux!!

I recall a person who refused to be involved in their previous program Skartocc, but to my surprise, lately accepted an invitation on another local satiric program.... what's wrong with Zoo???

Thanks goes to Teletubi and ZOO MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT!!! May we have more programs like this because it seems that in 2008 some people are still preferring to have a good laugh while watching foreign stations. The same word said in Italian or a phrase translated in English would seem fine, ey!

I have been following Zoo & I have only words of praise for them!! Keep up your good work & well done for your talents! Much admired!!
Byron Camilleri (on 15/4/08)
Hello!??? We are living in 2008... and not threatend by the church anymore!!
Charles Sammut (on 15/4/08)
Thank you to the BA for protecting us from such "depraved" productions. This will no doubt work wonders for Zoo's popularity.

BA please note that we are living in 2008 not 1008 AD
S.Muscat (on 15/4/08)
I totally agree with Mr. Ray Borg.
Thanks ZOO and ONE Productions for entertaining us with "TeleTubi"... we want more.
alan spiteri (on 15/4/08)
Rules are rules.... no one said anything when they fined bondi+ for having too many adverts....
They broke the rules, so they pay the fine
Ray Borg (on 15/4/08)
How convenient to make some easy money for the authority. Instead of encouraging local entertainment they make everything to discourage people like ZOO. I would like to hail my support to ONE and ZOO for giving us Teletubi. Please give us more of these productions.

Sorry but this pure bull.

Why? It's Labour that is why.
