'Abortion is negation of a right' - Bishops
The bishops of Malta and Gozo insisted in a statement today that abortion is not a choice but murder, and it is not a right but a negation of the right to life.
In a statement issued in view of the debate being held in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on a motion for the decriminalisation of abortion, Archbishop Paul Cremona and bishop Mario Grech said they wished to express their appreciation and support to the Maltese representatives from both sides of the House who are actively opposing the approval of this motion.
They said that the first fundamental human right is the right to life and it was everybody's duty to defend the life of every human being from the first moment of its existence.
"Abortion is not a choice but murder; abortion is not a right but a negation of the right to life; abortion is not beneficial, neither for society nor for the mother herself."
The bishops said they were appealing to the rapporteurs of the Council of Europe to be objective in what they proposed for the consideration of the members, to present fact as facts, comments as comments and what is debatable as debatable.
They also urged the people of Malta and Gozo to pray to the Lord to continue giving their representatives and the other members of the Assembly, the wisdom and courage to defend human life.

I would like to express my opinion that is in line with the previous comments. I think that whatever we say on this tiny land we will be bulldozed by the big giant. No matter how much we said about the derogations we managed to achieve prior to joining the union since these will all fall in a domino effect as soon as the ECJ decides to declare spring hunting for Quails and Turtle doves illigal. This will be a very dangerous move that will mean that all that we have negotiated will be worth nothing. I cannot understand how someone can change the contents of a contract after the signing takes place even if the two are not in agreement. Unfortunately this will eventually happen on abortion as well. Let the foreign guests of Birdlies come to protect birds which are not in danger of extinction and forget about the slaughter of innocent human beings being carried out in their own countries.

Well, it is often said that a society is judged by the way it treats its animals!
In the UK, the authorities have been taking people to court for the craziest of reasons in connection with so-called "animal cruelty" and people have suffered terribly both emotionally and financially as a result.
It does seem that animals really have it better than us humans!

My best wishes to the Goverment of Malta in voting against any law that is against life from conception to death. Let's Malta show again her courage which gave us the George Cross for our bravery.
One shout by everyone - NO ABORTION IN OUR MOTHER LAND

I find it rather strange that European authorities are proposing to decriminalise abortion, while at the same time they regard spring hunting as being illegal. So, according to these same European institutions, those who kill birds are criminals but those who kill unborn babies can get away with it?
