Former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher finished 14th in his first race yesterday in the German Tour Car Masters (DTM) at the Hockenheimring. Schumacher, 32, switched to the Masters after failing to secure a new F1 contract with Toyota.

"The important thing was to get a good feel for it," Schumacher said, adding he was looking forward to the next race for his Mercedes team next Sunday in Oschersleben. "Every kilometre experience I get is good for me."

The season opener was won by defending champion Mattias Ekstrom, of Sweden, in an Audi A4.
