Effie I agree with you 100% that we should look at the future and try to find the ways, TOGETHER, for this island to move forward. WE should all agree (and that includes both parties) that whatever was wrong in the past in OUR history WE should not hesitate to apologise and say it was wrong. WE should all agree as well to have faith in our authorities and leave them to work as they should without trying to give our interpretations to why they take (or don’t) long to come up with conclusions (as if we are watching a soap opera and want to see the end of it as quickly as possible) so that justice is done and done fairly. The last comment I would like to make in this chat is that We should all agree that nobody is above the law and that these are there not to be broken and if someone, WHOEVER IT IS, is found guilty than we leave it in the hands of the Law Courts to judge him/her for his/her doings. Thank you.

No amount of verbiage will obscure the fact that the results of this investigation should have been made public by now.

What are the police waiting for?

david sorry to enter in a discussion with you on an issue that doesn't concern this column. but why do you mention only the 80s why don't you mention the 60s?

when one of the most shameful episodes in a democratic country could happen. i am referring to the era when labourites where buried in a rubbish dump.

i am referring to the era when they where not given jobs, homes or pensions.so lets forget about the past and talk about the present or future of this small country that would have moved more forward if people like you and me put the party before country.

that's in the case of jpo. why are you trying to lobby his guilt when everybody knows and heard and have come to the conclusion that he is a liar irrelevant of the outcome of this investigation.

Mr Laiviera, if you don’t ‘like to think that we have sunk to a level where the police play poltical games’ just don’t think about it – you don’t have to! That is past now something which I agree with Mr Carbonaro that now we are in 2008 and the past should not be mentioned – but ‘facts have to be faced’ and these are facts as well. ‘Who cares what happened in the 8os’? I DO and I am sure a lot others on the island do as well so much so that in spite they did not vote for the PN they are still afraid of the MLP because of what happened in the 80s. We have indeed been made ‘Laughing stock of Europe’ when we freezed our EU application and when we retreated from PFP with the excuse that we are neutral on the same day when Switzerland (not Malta in the Med but the real one which has a lot of chocolates) joined the same PFP!

You re right Joe and David, Mr Laviera shouldn t be worrying about the fact that the investigation is taking too long. He (as well as the both of you) should be worrying about the fact that JPO has been appointed by our government to head the Council of Europe delegation, whilst still under investigation.

Why doesn't Joe Martinelli pack his bags, depart from Maple Leaf country and repatriate back to Malta if he feels that matters are run so well here? Hasn't he got anything better to do then write letters to the English language newspapers in Malta to criticize Labour and laud his gonzipn govt?

david when are the people of this country speak freely on a certain issue without mixing politics.who careswhat happened in the 80s we are in 2008.why is this case taking so long to be concluded when we have the prime suspect representing malta in brussels.we will be the laughing stock of europe if he is incriminated and he will be because certain evidence is crystal clear.but if we are made the laughing stock of europe it wouldnt be jpo fault but the clown who decided to sent him for a holiday to brussels.

The results of the Zimbabwe general Election have not been announced after two weeks because "further investigations" are taking place. In Malta, the Police are still carrying out "further investigations" into the Mistra Scandal. Why the delays in both cases? Justice delayed is justice denied.

Mr Battistinio, I'm sorry if my remarks made you feel uncomfortable, but facts have to be faced. This investigation is taking far too long. The police should either make their findings public or else explain the reasons for the delay.

I would not like to think that we have sunk to a level where the police play political games.

And Mr Battistino should also be aware that when there are allegations of criminal activities, the police have the right and the DUTY to investigate on their own initiative and not wait to be instructed to investigate.

Mr. Laiviera, you should be worrying about the problems in the MLP rather than that the police investigation into the JPO case is taking so long.
It is not a police matter perhaps, that the MLP leadership has been duping their own supporters pretending that it was against EU membership while secretly, the majority agreed that membership was the best avenue!
That's what you should be worrying about because those people who were rallying you to vote against EU membership were blatantly misrepresenting their own convictions!

Dear Mr Victor Laviera, have you ever thought that the police force is a professional authority? and that 'perhaps' who is a professional does not jump to conclusions on matters that are very sensitive? What's the hurry? as long as things are done as they should be you don't need to worry. If it was 'mhux fl-interess tal-poplu' like it used to be in the 80s not even the PM would have bothered asked the Police to start investigating. And this is a hard pill to swallow is it? present administration does not bother to investigate, but it seems that if it does not investigate than it is labelled as 'corrupt' and if it does investigate then we try to sow doubts in peoples minds. And that is the problem!

Or perhaps "mhux fl-interess taq-poplu" that we are told what happened?
