An 84-year-old Englishman was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital for emergency treatment early yesterday morning after being airlifted by a helicopter from the passenger cruise liner Buddica. The man was reported to be losing a lot of blood.

The cruise ship was in a position some 40 nautical miles east of Malta when the elderly man was winched off at about 3.15 a.m. by a locally-based Italian Air Force AB212 helicopter.

AFM medical officer Surgeon Lietenant Colonel Robert Galea was on board the helicopter to assist the patient.
