Seventeen persons were detained by the Armed Forces over the weekend after being stopped at various road- blocks and allegedly found to be in possession of illegal substances. They were later handed over to the Police Drug Squad for further investigations.

The suspects - 13 men and four women - were in six different vehicles.

AFM personnel from the Number One Regiment's C (Special Duties) Company inspected the vehicles and found the passengers allegedly in possession of suspected cocaine satchets, cannabis joints, ecstasy pills, a packet of cannabis leaves and a sachet of cocaine residue.

Five other drivers who were stopped in the roadblocks were found to be without a valid insurance policy.
