In the past two months, I unfortunately had to accompany two very close relatives to the emergency section of Mater Dei Hospital.
I was in awe at the staff, that, notwithstanding the constant flow of patients that was pouring in, managed to attend to everybody in a very professional manner.
Credit must also go to the general staff that work in the wards, who like their counterparts manage to attend to one and all without any fuss whatsoever.
However, it is with regret that I must point out that the hospital, which has been built to the highest standards, and is a credit to the country, is heavily short of beds, and also short of staff!
I was surprised to see the Day Care Centre being used to accommodate patients who arrived directly from the emergency ward. I also noted that females and males were actually housed in the same room!
I was informed that there are other wards that are presently empty, due to the fact that there is not sufficient staff to run these wards!
I ask, what is the reason behind this shortage of staff and beds? Can anybody answer me?
