Very recently, I read about an appeal from the parents of a teenager of Maltese descent who suffers from a blood disorder which can only be cured by a bone marrow transplant.

Maltese people are being asked to register as bone marrow donors to help find a donor for their son.

A suitable donor has not yet been found and his parents are desperate to find a bone marrow donor. I contacted the Anthony Nolan Trust Register (UK), indicated in the appeal and much to my dismay I was told ".... Unfortunately Malta does not have a volunteer bone marrow registry, therefore, you would need to contact either the Unrelated Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donor Registry Greece or the Italian Bone Marrow Donor Registry to see if they would accept an application from you".

What is exactly Malta's situation vis-à-vis bone marrow donors?
