French is spoken bu 200 million people worldwide and to mark Journée de la Francophonie the University's Department of French and La Petite Auberge de France held an event on March 12 at the Francis Ebejer Hall on campus under the distinguished patronage of the French and Tunisian ambassadors.

After reading this year's message by the Secretary-General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, Abdou Diouf, the event programme featured a play inspired by this year's choice of ten French words of foreign origin (Les 10 mots migrateurs). The play was written by a group of students under the direction of Anne Puhl, a French lecturer from the University of Aix-en-Provence.

This was followed by a Powerpoint presentation with recorded readings by students under the direction of Mélanie Pouzard, a French trainee whose services the French Embassy kindly offered to the Department of French.

The event ended with the sampling of French food prepared by students.
