To mark the arrival of the Hyundai i10 to Malta, local agent Meridian Enterprises have organised a fun-packed weekend at Badger Karting, Ta' Qali, which continues today.

The track provides the ideal setting to view the car and test drive it. There are special offers on karting activities and entertainment for children.

Entry to the track is free and everyone will be able to participate in a competition to win €700 off a new Hyundai i10. The event is open today from 9.30 a.m. to 6.30 pm. The winners will be announced this evening.

Meanwhile, an Open Week with extended hours starts tomorrow and runs until Saturday. The Meridien showroom will be open daily until 8 p.m.

The Hyundai i10 is not just the second car to bear the 'i' prefix, but also marks a completely new approach in building small A segment cars.

The will of Hyundai to 'inspire' is one of the foundations of the Hyundai marque.

This entry-level challenger introduces additional two new engines, automatic transmission, versatile interior configuration, with sophisticated equipment levels and styling to the competitive A segment. Like the i30, the i10 was designed and developed with Europe fully in focus. Targeted primarily at the entry-level younger customer, or the second or third car in household.

In terms of styling, the i10 features Hyundai's new fashionable, sleek and yet elegant design. The upsweep of the rear waistline, the sleek, flowing contours and large clear-eyed headlamps that blend with the unique front grille, give the i10 a distinctive appearance, reminiscent of the i30.

The Hyundai logo is integrated into design by forming a part of the distinctive rear hatch-opening lever. Elsewhere the side view is emphasised not only by reflective lower contours, but also by the integration of the side protection strips. And an 'i' family resemblance is also seen in the front and rear bumpers also as the massive front air intake with mesh type radiator grille.

Despite the compact dimensions it has the longest wheelbase in class. For this reason the interior was designed to have forward folding rear seat cushions, allowing the 60/40 split seats and to be folded fully flat. Furthermore there is also a useful under floor storage compartment beneath the rear load area.

In terms of load volume, 225 litres with all the seats erected is generous and class leading and copes easily with a folded baby carriage, sports bags or the weeks shopping. Wide opening, generously sized doors with grab handles allow easy access and highly competitive head, leg and shoulder and load room make the i10 even more convenient and delightful.

The i10 features a revised four-cylinder 1.1-litre petrol engine, which meets or even exceeds every current anti-pollution demand.

With a Euro NCAP four-star rating, the i10 is built with safety firmly in mind. High tensile sub frames, floor and bulkhead reinforcements and tailored blanks combined with B- and C-pillar reinforced hoop structures, also add the protection of special strength steels to the computer designed and thoroughly tested structure.

In impact situations the i10 provides fully integrated passive safety. Pre-tensioned seatbelts fine-tuned with the structured front seats to hold passengers in the optimum position. In addition the standard airbags are depowered to reduce or even avoid injury and all surfaces are strategically padded.

Impact sensing auto door unlocking comes along standard for power door lock options.

The i10 comes with a two-year, unlimited warranty package.

Prices start at €11,297 (Lm4,850).

Hyundai hopes the i10 will redefine the segment and set a new benchmark for cars in its class.
