Three Romanian nationals yesterday admitted to defrauding customers when they sold them fake gold objects in Gozo last Friday.

Maria Mattei, 34, a 14-year-old girl, and Nicolas Micleascu, 21, pleaded guilty to selling items in Gozo without a commercial licence and defrauding customers.

Ms Mattei also admitted to stealing €20 (Lm8.59), while the man pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of wine worth €1,164 (Lm500) from a Xagħra restaurant and the teenager admitted to stealing three t-shirts from a clothes shop.

Mr Micleascu received a seven-month jail term suspended for four years, Ms Mattei was sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for four years and the 14-year-old was conditionally discharged for three years.

The court was presided over by Magistrate Anthony Ellul and Police Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted.
