Passenger in critical condition after collision

The passenger of a vehicle is in a critical condition after a head on collision earlier this morning.

The police said that two vehicles, a Toyota Vitz and a van, collided with each other when approaching from opposite directions in Triq Villa Bate, Zabbar at around 4.20 a.m.

A 62-year-old woman, a passanger in the van, was taken to Mater Dei Hospital where she is in danger of losing her life.

Meanwhile, the driver of the van suffered a number of injuries but is not in a critical condition. The driver of the Toyota, a 26-year-old woman from Fgura remained unscathed.

Police investigations continue.

Even without knowing the details of the case, this says a lot about the safety of newer vehicles vs old. I wonder, were the van's occupants wearing seatbelts, if the van was so equipped in the first place.
