1,100 pirated DVDs seized in police raids

The police seized some 1,100 pirated DVDs and Playstation games during raids on the Floriana and Vittoriosa markets today.

The police said its Economic Crimes Unit seized some 600 pirated DVDs in a raid on the open market in Floriana this morning along with a number of falsified Playstation games.

Later in the day the same unit seized a further 500 pirated DVDs from various stalls at the Vittoriosa market.

A number of persons are to be arraigned in court.

What about pirate or immitation car parts supplied said to be approved by the insurances? Do police check on these as well? Basically this should be of more concern as direct health and safety is involved.

I agree with you John. How about music shops selling pirated CDs and DVDs which are priced as if they were original. Atl east the ones in the market are not sold as original are they? why don't ECU police start raiding these shops? the reason is because they are afraid of the wealthy - people who run these shops , but they can always give trouble to the honest ones in the Floriana and Vittoriosa markets can't they?

How about ECU police raiding all stalls for falsified imported software, clothing ,shoes , on a daily basis without wearing uniform.
I think it is not just DVDs and PS games which are being pirated .
It is about time we consumers get to know how to identify which is which and stop being ripped off .
How about programmes on Local TV and radio - teaching people how to identify false from fraud.
The ECU can give a great contribution here.
Every now and then we hear about a raid . OK so far so good .
Why is it that the next day it is back to business as usual . At least that is the impression I get.
Does anyone share my idea ?
