I believe every effort should be made to encourage the opening of routes from more airports in Germany. This would result in more tourists from that country and less reliance on the British market, on which we are too dependent.

Frankfurt-Hahn airport is over 120 kilometres away from Frankfurt city and would bring people from the Rhineland rather than the Hesse region where Frankfurt is situated. Frankfurt-Hahn is a low-cost airport and would not hinder any traffic from Frankfurt-am-Main airport where Air Malta and Lufthansa operate.

People who use Frankfurt-Hahn airport live in the westernmost part of Germany, namely the Rhein-Hunsruck region. Malta is missing a great opportunity to attract tourists from this region which is very wealthy. People from Rhein-Hunsruck would not bother to go all the way to Frankfurt-am-Main airport to catch a flight to Malta, they simply use Frankfurt Hahn, which is closer. It is not true that Lufthansa flights will be affected.

Another important destination is Dortmund airport. Again, Malta is missing out on an important destination where many airlines operate from.

Perhaps negotiations with Air Berlin can be conducted in a way to get regular flights from Nuremberg and other German cities all year round.

Palma del Mallorca was smart enough and managed to attract Air Berlin, which uses it as a hub, offering more than 12 destinations to and from Germany. This should give an idea of what Malta is missing out on.
