Children aged between five and 15 can win great prizes by taking part in two new competitions recently launched by International Ocean Institute-Malta Operational Centre (IOI-MOC), which is hosted by the University of Malta.

The 'Young Journalist Award' invites contestants to prepare a factual article in the form of a news item that focuses on a theme related to the sea and/or the coast, while in the 'Best 2008 Project' participants have to create an instructive project also focusing on the sea and/or the coast. The participants' work will be published on the IOI-Kids website www.ioikids.net.

The project is supported by the IOI's Women, Youth and the Sea programme. The IOI is a non-governmental, non-profit international organisation dedicated to the sustainable development of the oceans. Its headquarters is in Malta and it has operational centres located in 25 countries around the world.
