Guilty plea

A 32-year-old man was granted bail yesterday against a personal guarantee of €2,330 (Lm1,000) after he pleaded guilty to stealing a cheque book.

Ludvic Camilleri from St Paul's Bay admitted to stealing the cheque book from Sinop Ltd and HSBC Bank.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Edwina Grima, heard how Mr Camilleri had used the cheque book to obtain over €2,330 (Lm1,000). Defence lawyer Joseph Giglio said his client had already paid back some of the money with about €1,000 (Lm429.18) still outstanding.

Magistrate Grima postponed sentencing until the precise outstanding amount was determined.

Police Inspectors Yvonne Farrugia and Ivan Cilia prosecuted.

Mr Camilleri was represented by Joseph Giglio and Stephen Tonna Lowell.
