Who cares about the Olympics?

Edwin Vella, PRO of the Malta Shooting Sport Federation, complains that PBS has no plans to broadcast the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics or, indeed, the actual events.

Good! PBS is not exactly flush with cash at the moment and, quite frankly, it would be a scandal if the station were to waste even one cent of it on such a coverage given the state that the Olympic movement is in.

Watching that grotesque spectacle from London last weekend as thousands of British police had to be deployed to protect the representatives of a communist regime that leaves so much to be disired made me ashamed of my British passport.

The history of the Olympic torch relay says it all. Contrary to what the International Olympic Committee chairman would have us all believe, this is no part of Olympic tradition.

The torch relay was, in fact, invented for the 1936 Olympics by Adolf Hitler and Josef Goebbels to symbolise the handing on of the flame of fascism from the original Aryan races to modern Nazism.

Red China is a worthy heir to such a despicable heritage.
