Young Stars 5
Sliema Hotsticks 1

Barely a minute had gone by when Young Stars went ahead through David Evans. This setback put paid to any aspirations Sliema might have had of repeating the first round win over Young Stars.

Nathan Galea, who was proving quite a handful to control, hit the post and then Edward Hughes blasted well over the bar.

But Young Stars were not to be denied and from a well-taken short corner on 18 minutes, Ivan Magro flicked in from 13 metres out.

Magro made it 3-0 three minutes later when he dribbled his way past several Sliema players following a short corner action.

Sliema could have pulled one back but young Brandon Sant, playing his first full match for Young Stars, saved a Lentini hit.

With the game practically won and lost, both sides opted to bring on their reserves and this rendered the match more balanced.

On 53 minutes, Michael Bugeja released Simon Baldacchino who beat Sant with a fine angled flick to narrow the deficit.

However, within two minutes, Young Stars re-established their three-goal advantage through Cristian Bonello and increased it when a move between Bonello and Abdilla was concluded by Clifford Defratelli.

Qormi 2
White Hart 1

This game started at a fast pace but play was still restricted to midfield for most of the time.

Qormi could have opened the score but Tanti mis-hit the ball in front of an open goal.

At the other end, David Agius, with a penetrating pass, put Reno Bianchi clear but his scoop was saved by Chircop.

Qormi forged ahead on 22 minutes when Keith Calleja won a 50/50 ball off Alan Vella and beat Galea with a well-taken reverse hit.

After this setback, White Hart could have equalised had it not been for a point-blank save by Chircop from Tua. On 28 minutes, it had to be another sortie by Chircop to deny Paul Torpiano.

In the second half, White Hart immediately went all out on attack and equalised on 41 minutes following a short corner action which saw Roberts slide the ball past a diving Chircop.

White Hart could have doubled soon after when Sandro Bartolo won possession, forced his way towards goal and, with only Chircop to beat, made a mess of it.

At the other end, it had to be a timely clearance off the line by Kevin Filletti to deny Qormi's Jonathan Borg from scoring.

Qormi scored the goal that mattered on 61 minutes. They won a short corner from which Daniel Micallef powered the ball home off Simon Agius's stick.
