Nine candidates yesterday submitted their nominations for the casual elections expected to be held by the middle of next week.

Candidates have until tomorrow to submit their nomination for the casual elections, which will elect 12 MPs - six each for the Nationalist Party and the Malta Labour Party.

The nominations presented yesterday were by Joan Ann Farrugia Galea and Philip Mifsud on the seventh district for the seat vacated by Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando; Franco Galea, Philip Psaila, Georg Sapiano and Charles Selvaggi on the ninth district for the seat vacated by Robert Arrigo; Martin Debono on the 10th district for the seat vacated by Evarist Bartolo; Franco Galea and Philip Psaila on the 10th district for the seat vacated by Dolores Cristina; Vincent Galea on the 11th district for the seat vacated by Tonio Borg and Martin Fenech and Vincent Galea on the 12th district for the seat vacated by Tonio Fenech.

Since Tuesday, a total of 39 candidates have submitted their nomination.

Nominations will be received at the Office of the Electoral Commission, Evans Building, St Elmo Square, Valletta, until tomorrow between 9 a.m. and noon.
