Marsa beat Polish XV in first match

The Marsa Squash section earned a well-deserved 10-5 victory against a visiting Polish team at the Marsa Sports Club earlier this week.

Each team fielded 15 players in the first of the two matches and although the 10-5 result on paper looks like a formality, the matches on court proved to be much closer.

Two of Malta's leading players, Johanna Rizzo and Stephen Schranz, produced the performances of the day.

Rizzo was involved in a gruelling match against Szymon Wolek that lasted over 75 minutes, taking the fifth and final set 9-5.

Next up was Schranz who served up a master-class of control and dexterity to outwit the younger Tomasz Abramowski. Those present were treated to a fast game, with both players showing quick reactions and a wide variety of shots, constantly trying to outwit and outplay each other.

The next matches will take place today from 5.30 p.m.
