Sixteen candidates yesterday submitted their nominations for the casual elections expected to be held by the middle of next week.

The candidates have until Saturday to submit their nomination for the casual elections, which will elect 12 MPs - six each from the Nationalist Party and the Malta Labour Party.

The nominations presented yesterday were by Rita Law and Joseph Vella Bonnici on the second district for the seat vacated by Michael Falzon; Stephen Spiteri on the second district for the seat vacated by Lawrence Gonzi; Joseph Abela, Etienne Grech and Rita Law on the third district for the seat vacated by Helena Dalli; Edric Micallef on the fifth district for the seat vacated by George Vella; Sebastian Muscat on the sixth district for the seat vacated by Charles Mangion; Jacqueline Azzopardi and David Vassallo on the seventh district for the seat vacated by Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando; John Buttigieg on the eighth district for the seat vacated by Alfred Sant; Joseph Falzon and John Mary k/a John Rizzo Naudi on the ninth district for the seat vacated by Evarist Bartolo; Joseph Falzon on the 10th district for the seat vacated by Dolores Cristina; Charlò Bonnici, Shirley Farrugia and John Zammit Montebello on the 11th district for the seat vacated by Tonio Borg, and Robert Cutajar on the 12th district for the seat vacated by Tonio Fenech.

Since Tuesday a total of 29 candidates submitted their nomination for the casual elections.

Nominations will be received at the Office of the Electoral Commission, Evans Building, St Elmo Square, Valletta until Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon.
