12.2% increase in commuters to Gozo

Commuters between Malta and Gozo increased by 12.4 percent to 800,394 in the first quarter of this year, the NSO said today.

The number of vehicles carried by the ferries went up by 10.2 percent to 232,322.

The number of trips in the first quarter stood at 4,731, an increase of 4.6 per cent over the comparable period last year. The highest number of trips was recorded in March - 1,684 or 35.6 per cent of the total number of trips for the period under review.

Add to that the impact of the elections as Maltese having a second home in gozo crossed over to cast their vote. At one point the q had reached the outskirts of Marfa.

For a more accurate picture, I'm looking forward to figures comparing the first FOUR months of each year. Last year Easter was in April, while this year it boosted the March figures...
