Two critically injured

Two men from Qormi were critically injured yesterday in two separate accidents.

A 62-year-old man was run over by a car in Mdina Street, Qormi at about 10 a.m. as he was crossing the road. He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital where his condition was found to be serious and was placed on the "danger list".

However, last night the police said the man's condition has improved.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. In the other accident, a 56-year-old man was critically injured in a two-storey high fall down a shaft while working in a house in In-Nevew Street, Żabbar.

The police said the man was carrying out renovation works at the house at about noon when he lost his balance. Civil Protection Department personnel and a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital were called in. The shaft was reached through a garage round the corner from the house.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera has opened an inquiry.
