UPDATED: Man critically injured while trying to escape from police HQ

A man who was injured this evening when he jumped over a wall while trying to escape from police headquarters is in danger of dying, the police said.

The incident took place at around 6 p.m.

The police said the 38-year-old man from Floriana was at police headquarters for questioning when he managed to evade his escorting officer and tried to escape by jumping over a wall overlooking the trade school behind headquarters.

The man was given first aid and then taken to hospital in an ambulance. The police in an update of his condition this evening said he had suffered broken ribs and was in danger of dying.
