Malta Enterprise chairman resigns

Alec Mizzi has resigned as chairman of Malta Enterprise and Malta Industrial Parks Ltd due to his other commitments as CEO of Alf Mizzi & Sons Group. Finance Minister Tonio Fenech has accepted the resignation. Dr Mizzi said in a brief statement he had found the challenges of his chairmanship of both entities interesting, especially given the fact that the organisations had been set up not so long ago, succeeding the MDC, Metco and IPSE. He also noted that the last two years were the best ever for Malta in attracting foreign direct investment.

Dr Mizzi was appointed chairman of Malta Industrial Parks in May 2005 and of Malta Enterprise in January 2006. He has also resigned from the boards of Malta Venture Capital plc and of the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corp Ltd.

Anton Borg and Simon Vella will assume responsibilities for Malta Enterprise Corp and Malta Industrial Parks Ltd respectively, until the new boards are appointed.

Frankly I believe that organisations like Malta Enterprise, etc, should have chairs & presidents that only spend a short while, and serve only to accomplish a set target or strategy. Moreover, we should try to avoid the same persons holding so many positions, no matter how able there are. Malta is a small country, and life is made more difficult when, wherever you go, you find that you are faced with the same persons. We need fresh, young blood, and not only in parliament.
