13 candidates so far for casual elections

Thirteen candidates yesterday submitted their nomination for the casual elections, which are expected to be held by the middle of next week.

The candidates have until Saturday to submit their nomination for the elections, which will elect 12 new MPs - six each from the Nationalist Party and Malta Labour Party.

The nominations presented so far are: Duncan Mifsud on the second district for the seat vacated by Michael Falzon; Owen Bonnici on the third, vacated by Helena Dalli; Joseph Mario Sammut on the fifth, vacated by George Vella; Saviour Schembri on the sixth, vacated by Charles Mangion; Anthony Abela on the seventh, vacated by Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando; Anthony Bugeja and Edward Zammit Lewis on the eighth, vacated by Alfred Sant; Michael Frendo and Karl Gouder on the ninth, vacated by Robert Arrigo; Joseph Cuschieri on the 10th, vacated by Evarist Bartolo; Michael Frendo and Karl Gouder on the 10th, vacated by Dolores Cristina; and Anthony Abela on the 12th, vacated by Tonio Fenech.

Nobody has yet submitted a nomination for the seats vacated by Lawrence Gonzi on the second district and Tonio Borg on the 11th.

Nominations will be received at the Office of the Electoral Commission, Evans Building, St Elmo Square, Valletta, until Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon.
