The impacts of climate on human health will not be evenly distributed around the world. Malta, being a small island state, is particularly vulnerable to climate change because:

• It has limited water and food resources.

• It is densely populated.

• Land is limited and there is no room for movement should sea levels rise.

• Rising levels will damage our coasts.

• Climate change will likely have an impact on tourism and the island's economy.

Scientific uncertainty persists about the possibility and timing of abrupt and catastrophic climate change if temperatures continue to rise. This makes it urgent for action to begin now to stabilize the climate through strong and effective mitigation.

We can all do our part to mitigate the effects on and of climate change by:

• Using resources such as water and energy responsibly.

• Consuming less energy such as driving less and walking more.

• Choosing clean energy sources such as solar and wind energy.
