The Christian Democrat Students organisation (SDM), that holds the presidency of the Students' University Council (KSU), yesterday presented the 10 candidates who will be contesting the council elections scheduled to be held next week.

The elections will only take place if SDM's candidates are contested, since, so far, no other student organisation has expressed an intention to do so.

SDM president Anton D'Amato urged all students to participate in Thursday's KSU annual general meeting to ensure that their concerns are voiced.

"The more students participate, the stronger the student body and the more they will benefit as students," Mr D'Amato said.

He explained how SDM always worked for the best interests of students, both on campus and in their everyday lives.

Mr D'Amato added that, later this week, SDM would publish its electoral manifesto. It was "concise and to the point" and expressed SDM's concepts and ideas aimed to strengthen communication between the university administration, lecturers and students and help students make their voice heard.

The SDM, he said, believed that the time had come to add a new post to the KSU board as a person was needed to help with the administration and public relations. This would necessitate an amendment to the statue, something that would be discussed during the AGM.

Mr D'Amato, who is not running for a place on the KSU, said it was a pity that SDM were so far uncontested.

Last year the 10 KSU seats were won by SDM who contested against Pulse and Reach.

This year's SDM candidates are: Roberta Avellino for president, Matthew Agius for secretary general, Kristina Borg for treasurer, Benjamin Pule for public relations official, Daniela Cassar for international officer, Ivan Scicluna for international coordinator, Daniela Bartolo for educational coordinator, Dylan Seychell for social policy coordinator, Matthew Paris for culture and entertainment official, and Nerissa Pace as culture and entertainment coordinator.
