A court heard yesterday how a young man's parents did not want him back after he allegedly stole from them to sustain his drug habit.
Christopher Mifsud, 20, of Qormi yesterday pleaded not guilty to stealing €2329.37 (Lm1,000) worth of gold items from his parents' home on and before Sunday.
Police Inspector Marisa Camilleri testified that Mr Mifsud's parents did not want him back after they found the gold items missing when they were moving house.
Mr Mifsud told the court that he was currently undertaking a non-residential drug rehabilitation programme and was seeking help for his addiction.
He also pleaded not guilty to stealing €260 (Lm111.61) in cash from the Gold Play amusement shop in Qormi.
After taking into consideration the circumstances of the case, Magistrate Miriam Hayman ordered that he be remanded him in custody.
Police Inspector Marisa Camilleri prosecuted. Lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared as legal aid for Mr Mifsud.
