Book on the Florianis
A book on engineers Pompeio and Pietro Paolo Floriani, both associated with Malta, was launched in the Italian town of mediaeval Macerata, from where the two, father and son, hailed. The book is the work of Simonetta Torresi.
Pompeio visited the island to inspect the fortifications of Valletta. In fact, the Bibliotecha retains two of his major discorsi. Pope Urban VIII later sent Pompeio's son, Pietro Paolo, on the advice of Cardinal Francesco Barberini and inquisitor Fabio Chigi. It was Pietro Paolo who designed the fortifications surrounding Floriana.
