Parents claim son stole their jewellery

A Qormi couple are refusing to have their 20-year-old son at home after accusing him of stealing their jewellery to fund his drug habit, a court was told this morning.

Christopher Mifsud is pleading not guilty to stealing jewellery worth some €2,329 from his parents' home.

The theft was discovered when the parents were packing household items in order to move house.

Police inspector Maris Camilleri said Mr Mifsud suffered a drug problem but was following a non-residential rehabilitation programme.

He has also been accused of stealing €260 from Gold Play amusement shop in Qormi.

He was remanded in custody.
