The leader of the right-wing Imperium Europa party, Norman Lowell, is to appeal his March 27 conviction of inciting racial hatred and insulting the President of Malta.

The court had imposed a two-year jail term suspended for four years and fined him €500.

His legal counsel, Emmy Bezzina, said Mr Lowell (picture) will file a detailed appeal tomorrow, with 22 requests either for the inferior court`s judgement to be revoked or for it to be altered on the basis of "very strong factual and legal grounds".
