An Armed Forces of Malta helicopter yesterday rescued a 26-year-old woman who was trapped on a rock face at Fomm ir-Riħ.

The AFM Air Wing went into action after receiving a report just after 5 p.m. that the woman, Dorian Grasso, was stranded on the rock face about 150 metres above the sea and could move neither up nor down. After several attempts to reach the stranded woman from the top of the cliff face failed, an Alouette SA321B rescue helicopter, piloted by Staff Sergeant Norbert Fenech, was scrambled from the AFM's Air Wing at Luqa.

Two rescuers, Bombardier Ivan Gauci and Bombardier Brian Xuereb, were winched down to check whether Ms Gauci had sustained any injuries and then had her winched back onto the helicopter.
