Why is it that to report a theft that happened in a hotel in the north of Malta I must go to a police station of that locality and not in the comfort of the one in my hometown? When will more consistent messages be conveyed from within the police force?

I recently phoned the police depot and after explaining that I needed to report a theft, was advised to go to the police station of my choice without delay. When I went to the Żebbuġ police station I was asked to report the matter in the locality where the theft occurred. When I asked why, I was told that in this way I would be saving them having to call the police station which should take on the case.

Are not the police meant to support the citizens, or is it vice-versa? Is it not that the sooner a matter is reported the better?

I was left wondering what century or rather millennium we are living in.

May I suggest that user-friendly measures are introduced to ensure quicker and more efficient reporting, perhaps using secure internet portals?
