Valletta take giant step to title, Hibs win

Valletta 2 Marsaxlokk 1

Hibs 4 Mqabba 2

Valletta took a giant step towards the Premier League crown this afternoon by beating Marsaxlokk 2-1 at Ta'Qali, thus consolidating their position at the top of the league table.

Marsaxlokk's Pullicino opened the score just before the hour but Giglio made it 1-1 just under 15 minutes later and the ever-green Monesterolo gave Valletta the precious winner from an 84th minute penalty.

Marsxlokk could have salvaged a point but lost a last minute penalty.

Earlier, Hiberians beat Mqabba 4-2 to make sure they stay in the premier division next year.

Xuereb and Xerri scored from the spot for Hibs in the first half but Pereira and Briffa scored for Mqabba to even things. Xuereb and Xerri scored again in the second half to give the Paolites a deserved win.
