Time has a strange way of playing tricks on us and I find it incredulous to realise the long number of years that I have known Renzo.

Renzo passed on this week but his presence in the community of Santa Luċija will stay on for much longer. He was one of the first to encourage me to contest local council elections in Santa Luċija and throughout the years his support and encouragement never faltered.

As a neighbour he could be difficult, obstinate and resolute but as a friend and advisor he was a loyal trooper. I will always cherish the long conversations we had where we strived to put the world to right! His insistence on perfection and order was admirable.

He found pleasures in the simplicities of life but at the same time could surprise you with the profoundest of thoughts. He was quiet and unassuming yet professional and dignified.

To the very end he showed me nothing short of encouragement and support and for that I am truly grateful. He totally supported my decision to contest the last general election and despite his obvious physical difficulties kept on his constant encouragement and loyalty.

To his family, my sincere condolences on their painful loss. He will be sorely missed by the community of Santa Luċija.
