French Ambassador Jean-Marc Rives presented a financial contribution to Juanito Camilleri, rector of the University of Malta, following an agreement reached with the University of Aix-en-Provence for an exchange of teaching assistants in 2007-2008.

Through this exchange, a Maltese person is teaching the Maltese language at the Department of Linguistics and Translation of the French university, while a French teacher is providing instruction in the French language to Maltese students at the Faculty of Arts, University of Malta.

Mr Rives also presented pedagogical/linguistic bursaries to teachers and students of the French language to follow intensive courses in French training centres. The Embassy is also providing a Masters teacher trainee of French to Malta's university, while also supplying pedagogical resources to the Petite Auberge, located on campus.

The Ambassador referred to the initiative through which the Embassy invited French lecturers to the different faculties of the University of Malta.

The short scientific internships programme for Maltese students and lecturers has been renewed this year. This programme provides an opportunity to those currently carrying out research at Masters/Doctorate level to spend a few months working in French laboratories and research centres.
