She's graced the top of best-dressed lists, created her own clothing line for Topshop and sparked numerous style trends over the years. But more recently, it's Kate Moss's hair that has fashion followers' tongues wagging.

Last year, she gave on-off boyfriend Pete Doherty the chop along with her hair. Gone are the bed head locks, Ms Moss is currently modelling a head of shiny hair ‒ with a much copied eye-skimming fringe.

The man behind Kate's hairstyles is stylist James Brown, who recently launched his own haircare range James Brown London, inspired by the supermodel herself.

A chance meeting in a Croydon salon when Mr Brown was just 15 was where he first encountered schoolgirl Kate. The duo have been firm friends ever since and gone on to create some of the hottest hair looks since the 1990s.

Want supermodel style hair? Here, Mr Brown gives the insider tips to creating Kate's iconic looks from the past 15 years.

1993
"This is what started it all ‒ Kate's first Vogue cover, and mine. At the time a cover credit didn't mean that much to me. I wasn't a full-time session stylist, I was still working in a salon. Now I can appreciate what a groundbreaking image this was.

That's a Chanel bustier Kate's wearing, with scraped back hair and very little make-up. In time, people started to refer to the look as 'grunge'. I simply created a ponytail and wrapped it round into a bun. It was made to look slick, like second-day hair."

1997
"I love it when Kate takes her hair to a slightly darker shade ‒ she has such amazing cat-like eyes that it makes her look very exotic. This is an über-smooth look for Kate and very different to what she tends to go for now. It's freshly washed, and blow-dried to a super-smooth and straight finish."

2000
"This look can be achieved by drying the roots perfectly straight and allowing the ends to finish drying naturally for a slightly rougher finish. To style, apply some smoothing balm to the ends and tease to make it look slightly tousled. This is a much sleeker style than Kate goes for now, but she carries it off well with her demure outfit."

2001
"This was such a drastic move for Kate ‒ she'd been thinking about it for a while, then out of the blue she just let me do it on a whim! As always though, she pulled it off fantastically and caused a flurry of pixie-cut hairstyles across the country.

The most important thing with short hair is accepting that it's going to look different every time you wash it. Rather than trying to battle against natural kinks and curls, work with them to give you a different style everyday."

2003
"I'm not a fan of 'up-dos' ‒ most of the time they look stiff and contrived. But, Kate's relaxed look is perfectly balanced and can take you through from day to night.

It's always easier to style hair when it's a day old but this can sometimes mean hair has gone a little flat. Inject some movement into the hair by loosely tonging the ends for a natural wave. Secure the back into a messy bun using kirby grips rather than elastic ties. The key to a Kate Moss up-do is for it not to look 'done' but a bit haphazard."

2003
"This is a shoulder length version of Kate's rock 'n' roll look. The main difference being the shorter length instantly makes hair look thicker. For more 'roughness' this hairstyle is backcombed to really create that messy effect. A trick I use a lot on Kate is rubbing an inflated balloon along the top of her hair which gives her that just-got-out-of-bed look."

2005
"This look is Kate down to a tee it's sexy, tousled and relaxed. It's Bardot but with a rock 'n' roll feel. Kate loves this look and it's what she'll wear to most events. To recreate this, blow dry hair upside down, blasting from all different directions and using your fingers, not a brush. Backcomb the crown a little, massaging hairspray into the roots using the palm of the hand and moving hair round to create volume.

2007
"This is Kate's latest look and one of my favourites. There was no planning behind this ‒ we were just getting ready to go out one evening and decided to go for it. Kate really suits a fringe ‒ she has those amazing cat-like eyes which the fringe just draws even more attention too. I was careful to not cut it too thick or blunt as I wanted it to look playful and flirty, not too severe."

2008
"When Kate opts for something different, she's not scared to go drastic. The inspiration for the night was Marc Bolan and glam rock, so we knew we wanted big hair and curls. I tonged the whole lot with different-sized barrels, and sprayed my James Brown London Heat Styling Protector all over. A bit of backcombing completed her 34th birthday look."
