Over €3,000 (Lm1,288) were collected at Bay Street during a fund-raising event in aid of the Mission Fund project that involves the construction of a school in Tanzania.

The money was collected last weekend during open air events featuring popular singers and dance groups, a display by the Malta Police Corps and poster exhibitions showing Mission Fund projects in Kenya, Guatemala, Peru and this year's project in Tanzania. The public was also able to buy a number of items from a bazaar or sponsor a uniform for a child in Tanzania.

In July, 25 Mission Fund volunteers will travel to Tanzania to spend five weeks helping in the construction of the school for children, most of whom are HIV positive. The project was requested by Sr Domenica Ciliberti, a Maltese nun working in Tanzania.

Anyone who wishes to donate €4.66 (Lm2) can send an SMS on 5061 8068.
