Price of diesel
I read that the price of diesel has now exceeded that of petrol. Diesel comes much cheaper than petrol. For example in Livigno, which is a duty-free place, diesel sells at €0.79 (Lm0.32). Have the people voted for a double crosser?

Diesel is also more expensive than petrol in the U.S. Not everything that happens in life is "the government's fault"!!

In Australia diesel has always cost more than petrol. It is currently about 13% more than petrol. (see http://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au ).
This might be due to the fact that Australian oil can be refined in to petrol whereas diesel needs to be imported.
Here in Malta we import all our fuel. Diesel just happens to be more expensive right now.
Let us not look back to the past but look around us and see what the 'real world' is experiencing.

Maltese drivers and consumers cannot expect that given the reality of rising gas prices, the price at the pumps will remain the same. Even in Canada which is a producer and exporter of oil, prices keep going up. It's a fact of life unfortunately when there is higher demand for the commodity and dwindling supplies.

Livigno is a tiny protected zone. In the rest of Italy you'll pay 1.35 euros for a litre, quite a difference from our 1.09 wouldn't you say...

In the UK, petrol is around £1.07 per litre and diesel is around £1.12 per litre.
