Appreciation - Anne Bradley, MBE
Rosette and Julian Zarb write:
When I remember my aunt, Anne Bradley, I always will have that picture of a loving and friendly face whenever I visited her in England and during the time I lived there between 1982 and 1987.
The first time I remember Anne was when I went over to London with my mother to see my grandparents. The house at Reddons Road in Beckenham was always a hive of activity.
Anne was always ready to cook up a tasty meal in no time at all.
When Anne and Dennis settled in Malta at the beginning of the 1990s, my extended family grew wider... we will always remember the Christmasses and birthdays we spent at her home in Lija and later in Naxxar, the exchange of gifts and the family gatherings.
She had already completed a university degree course in English Literature while in England and she was never tired of learning more.
In Malta she applied for a job at the British Council when this reopened on the islands after 1987, where she worked her way up to a director of that institution.
In recognition of her contribution at the British Council, she was awarded the MBE. How happy she was when she heard she would be invited to the Palace to receive her MBE.
How she spoke of her short but friendly conversation with Prince Charles about Malta! But Anne's love of friendship was the same out of work... she was much loved by her neighbours and all with whom she came into contact. When she retired from the British Council she worked for a time at St James Cavalier.
When she learnt about her illness, she continued to live life to the full as long as she could. I am certain the many dear friends and colleagues she made at Boffa Hospital, Casa Antonia and the Malta Hospice Movement including her "Lovely Carmen" will remember her that way as well!
