Four men were yesterday charged with assaulting three police officers following a road rage incident.

The men are Carmel Vassallo, 37, and Shawn Farrugia, 21, both of Rabat and Anton Galea, 22, and Charles Grima, 30, both of Mtarfa.

The four were accused of assaulting the policemen in Rabat between 9.45 a.m. and 10 a.m. following a road rage incident last Monday. The policemen were constables George Buhagiar, Ishmael Mercieca and Paul Louis Attard.

They were also charged with disregarding their orders, breaching the peace while Mr Grima alone was further charged with littering.

The men pleaded not guilty. They were granted bail against a personal guarantee of €500 (Lm214.65) each.

Police Inspector Nezren Grixti prosecuted while lawyers Jose Herrera and Veronique Dalli appeared for the defence.
