A man was yesterday handed down a two-year jailed term suspended for four years after pleading guilty to stealing cash from a language school in Pembroke.
Roger Testa, 47, of Msida, pleaded guilty to stealing the cash from Sprachcaffe at around 3 a.m. on July 23, 2006 and relapsing.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera said Mr Testa had two convictions on his criminal record, both on cannabis possession. In one case he was fined while in the other, he was conditionally discharged for six months.
The court said that strictly speaking, the accused should be jailed. However, in view of the declaration by the prosecution that he had cooperated with the police and had returned the stolen cash, the court was handing down a suspended jail term.
Police Inspectors Silvio Valletta and Carlo Ellul prosecuted.
