It is amusing to see the way Catholics are indoctrinated by their Church to commemorate Christmas and Easter myths as if they were current events. Two thousand years have passed since the alleged dates of the Christian myths - and so much has happened since then! Yet the Catholic Church continues to commemorate the 2,000 year old birth and death of Jesus as if they were occurring today.

In the increasingly secular 21st century, archaic myths about saviour-gods and sacrificial lambs are about as relevant to most people's lives as the old religions of the ancient Near East!

The Times contributes to the perpetuation of these myths by publishing write-ups on "miraculous" crucifixes; by showing photos of repulsive statues dripping with blood and gore and bad taste; and by displaying centre-spreads of dingy, one-room "exhibitions" of religious "art" that is the epitome of kitsch!
