A motorist was handed down a one-year-jail term suspended for a year when he admitted to threatening to kill a family of three, who were travelling in another car, because he felt insulted by words and gestures directed at him.

Sandro Maggi admitted to threatening Mary Lourdes and George Muscat and their daughter Marion, seriously injuring the two women and breaching the peace on Sunday.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard how the incident occurred when Mr Maggi and the Muscats were driving along It-Telgħa t'Alla w Ommu in Naxxar.

On hearing Mr Maggi's guilty plea, the magistrate handed down a suspended jail term and bound him not to approach Ms Muscat against a €230 (Lm100) fine in default.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted. Lawyer Stephen Tonna Lowell appeared for Mr Maggi.
